Who is this course for? This course is designed for competent indoor top-rope climbers who want to progress to lead climbing. You do not need to be a "strong" climber, but you must be confident in the basics.
Prerequisite: You must be able to climb grade F5+ / 6a comfortably on a top-rope.
Experience: You should be a registered, independent top-rope climber at your local wall.
What we cover (The Syllabus):
Week 1: The Fundamentals
Clipping Technique: Learn how to clip the rope safely and efficiently from stable stances.
Lead Belaying: Mastering the art of paying out slack, keeping your partner safe, and dynamic movement.
Rope Management: Understanding "Z-clips" and "back-clipping" to avoid common dangers.
Week 2: Confidence & Falls
Falling Practice: Graduated, progressive falling practice to build trust in the system and reduce fear.
Catching Falls: How to give a "soft catch" to ensure your partner has a comfortable fall.
Tactics: Simple strategies for reading routes and managing energy on lead.
What do I need to bring?
Harness & Belay Device: You must have your own harness and a belay device (ATC or similar) that you are comfortable using.
Climbing Shoes: Your own shoes are essential.
Rope: Ropes are provided by Climb Devon for the course duration.
Venue Information:
Exeter Courses: Held at The Quay Climbing Centre (Haven Road, Exeter).
Plymouth Courses: Held at The Life Centre (Plymouth Life Centre, Plymouth).
